Each year, approximately 150 children in our community are diagnosed with a form of diabetes. Nearly half of those children will need hospitalization in the “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center at Norton Children’s Hospital.

Norton Children’s Endocrinology, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, offers a New Patient and Family Program to help Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute patients and their families navigate a new diabetes diagnosis.

The program provides all the support a child and family need when first diagnosed with diabetes. This includes:

  • A custom diabetes manual
  • Initial education on diabetes
  • Access to nutrition classes

New patients of Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute work with various Norton Children’s Endocrinology team members. The team can see patients and their families during an inpatient stay at Norton Children’s Hospital and on an outpatient basis at our office in the Novak Center for Children’s Health, where Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute is located. Families also may work with other specialists, including pharmacists and case managers, to receive comprehensive support.
