Each year, approximately 150 children in our community are diagnosed with a form of diabetes. Nearly half of those children will need hospitalization in the “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center at Norton Children’s Hospital.

Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute, a part of Norton Children’s Endocrinology, offers a New Patient and Family Program to help navigate a new diabetes diagnosis.

The program provides all the support a child and family need when first diagnosed with diabetes. This includes:

  • A custom diabetes manual
  • Initial education on diabetes
  • Access to nutrition classes

Patients and their families can see providers and support staff during an inpatient stay at Norton Children’s Hospital and on an outpatient basis in the Novak Center for Children’s Health. Families also may work with other specialists, including pharmacists and case managers, to receive comprehensive support.
