Best Diabetes Children's Hospital

Norton Children’s Endocrine Hematology/Oncology Program is a service to help children and teens who have been treated for childhood cancer. Treatments for childhood cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy, steroid therapy, radiation and bone marrow transplant, can cause changes in the body, including how the endocrine glands function. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric endocrinologists monitor children for potential endocrine issues.

What Kind of Endocrine Issues Can Childhood Cancer Survivors Experience?

Children and teens treated for cancer can be at risk for a number of conditions, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Delayed (late) puberty
  • Low bone mineral
  • Low thyroid function
  • Precocious (early) puberty
  • Slow growth
  • Weight changes

Our specialists will monitor your child for symptoms of these conditions. If an issue is found, we will treat the issue as early as possible to limit any long-term effects your child may experience.
