Another phase of Norton Children’s Hospital’s expansion is nearly complete.
Patients and staff cut the ribbon to open part of the hospital’s newest medical/surgical unit. The space on the sixth floor features 12 private rooms along with a teen entertainment room, toddler play room and nourishment spaces for families. The rest of the unit, which will include 12 additional private rooms, will open in early 2019.
“We’ve designed this unit to include family-oriented amenities so that patients and families can focus on healing,” said Emmett C. Ramser, chief administrative officer, Norton Children’s Hospital. “We always aim to provide the very best approach to care, and this project gets us much closer to that goal.”
Norton Children’s Hospital is the destination for pediatric surgical care in Louisville, with convenient access from Southern Indiana.
The Children’s Hospital Foundation and the community, along with a gift from the WHAS Crusade for Children, are supporting the renovations in the pediatric medical/surgical unit. Physicians and other providers in the unit care for patients with respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological diseases, and children recovering from a variety of surgical procedures that require monitoring and care.
The unit is part of Norton Healthcare’s $78.3 million investment to renovate several areas at Norton Children’s Hospital, as well as create the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Other areas to be renovated include the “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center and two neonatal intensive care units. The project will be completed in 2021.
