Puberty: Having ‘the talk’ with your children

Health specialists share tips for keeping puberty talk positive for parents and kids

Moms and dads with children nearing puberty know exactly what you mean if you ask, “So have you had the talk yet?”

Erin Berkley-Sizemore, APRN, spoke this week with WHAS11’s Rachel Platt about when puberty starts for girls and boys, and good ways to communicate with children about everything from body changes to truth vs. myth.

Berkley, a nurse practitioner with Norton Children’s Urology Specialists, suggested one key is to start earlier than later. For other tips and information check out at the WHAS11 interview.

Norton Healthcare – St. Matthews will host three “Let’s Talk” classes geared for girls, boys and teens to help parents and children start the conversation about puberty. The free classes are led by medical professionals. To register call (502) 629-5437.
