Norton Children’s statement on House Bill 470

We oppose any legislation that interferes with the provider-patient relationship or criminalizes providers for treatment of patients in need.

House Bill 470, which seeks to limit gender-affirming care for any Kentuckian under 18, was recently introduced in the Kentucky House. The bill would revoke the license of any provider confirmed to have given gender-affirming care to a minor.

Below is the statement Norton Children’s shared with lawmakers at a house judiciary committee hearing on this topic on March 2, 2023.

Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s are committed to meeting people where they are to provide the best health care experience and treatment options. We oppose any legislation that interferes with the provider-patient relationship or criminalizes providers for treatment of patients in need. As an inclusive healthcare system, we will continue to care for everyone in our community with dignity, respect and in a way that honors families and their children.
