What We Do

The Norton Children’s Eosinophilic Esophagitis Clinic is made up of board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians from across the Norton Children’s network of specialists who provide multidisciplinary eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) treatment in children. Our team aims to create a holistic, personalized EoE treatment plan that meets your child’s unique needs once they are referred to the clinic.

Our multidisciplinary approach to care allows your child to be evaluated by multiple pediatric specialists all in the same visit. These specialists share clinic space, working to provide comprehensive, thoughtful EoE evaluation and treatment.

What We Treat

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an allergic inflammation of the esophagus that often is chronic or recurrent. The condition is common in children who also may experience food and seasonal allergies, asthma and eczema.

Treatment

Treatment will be based on the child’s age, current health, unique health history and EoE symptoms. Treatment plans can include:

• Medicines
• Dietary modifications, including avoidance of trigger foods identified during allergy testing
• Six-food elimination diet, which removes many common allergenic food groups (dairy, wheat, egg, soy, nuts and seafood) before slowly reintroducing the food groups to determine which may trigger EoE in the child
• Formula-only diet or complete elimination diet

Medicines may be used to ease symptoms and may be stopped if they are no longer necessary for EoE management. Some treatments, including dietary modifications, may need to be lifelong.
