The WHAS Crusade for Children has gifted $650,000 to Norton Children’s Hospital to support renovations in the pediatric medical/surgical unit

The redesigned medical/surgical unit will feature 24 private rooms that will give patients and their families the privacy they need. Each room will have a sleeper sofa, so guests can comfortably stay overnight.

The unit also will have two age-appropriate play and respite areas for patients, along with a family nourishment space. These upgrades will allow patients and families to focus on healing.

Children’s Hospital Foundation

Norton Children’s Hospital and its sister facilities rely on the generosity of people like you to support our mission of serving all children, regardless of their families’ ability to pay. Your gift helps us provide for the physical and emotional health of more than 180,000 children each year.

“We are so appreciative of the WHAS Crusade for Children’s support to help kids at Norton Children’s Hospital overcome their medical challenges,” said Lynnie Meyer, Ed.D., R.N., CFRE, senior vice president and chief development officer, Norton Healthcare. “The hospital continues to expand all its critical care services and provide specialized medical care involving advanced, complex procedures and treatments. This wouldn’t be possible without generous contributions from our community partners like the WHAS Crusade for Children.”

The medical/surgical unit renovations are part of a $78.3 million investment by Norton Healthcare with support from the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The project will renovate several areas, including the “Just for Kids” Critical Care Center and two neonatal intensive care units at Norton Children’s Hospital, as well as create the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The project will be completed in 2021 and is aimed at improving access to the world-class care found at Norton Children’s Hospital.

Norton Children’s Hospital is the only full-service, free-standing pediatric care facility in the region that provides care “just for kids” for all 120 counties in Kentucky and 35 counties in Southern Indiana. For more than a century, Norton Children’s Hospital and its predecessor hospitals have cared for children of our community regardless of their families’ ability to pay.
