It’s not unusual for pediatricians to retire, relocate or adjust their practice. When changes happen, we’re here to make the transition to a new Norton Children’s pediatric provider as easy and stress-free as possible for you and your child.
You have a few convenient options to get started with a new Norton Children’s Medical Group provider:
Option 1: Call your current pediatrician office. Our team can help you schedule with another pediatrician at the same location, if available. Or you can call (502) 629-5437 (KIDS), option 3, and we’ll help you find a new pediatrician at another location.
Option 2: If your child has seen another provider in the same office, log in to your Norton MyChart account to schedule directly with them.
Option 3: Prefer to explore? Browse pediatricians by location, specialty and availability. You can view all our offices across Kentucky and Southern Indiana, and schedule an appointment online.
Option 4: If your pediatrician is moving to another Norton Children’s Medical Group location, you may continue going to them at their new location.
If your child needs a prescription refill, contact your pediatrician’s office or request a refill through your Norton MyChart account before your current provider’s last day. If a visit is needed, we’ll help you get one scheduled quickly.
Until your child’s new pediatrician is established, you may continue listing your Norton Children’s Medical Group office when asked by schools, specialists or other care providers.
When booking a pediatric appointment, you can join the digital wait list in Norton MyChart to be notified if an earlier appointment becomes available.
You may continue to bring your child to their current location for lab work or use our Norton Healthcare Express Services drive-thru option, if available, as long as your pediatrician has placed the order.
All Norton Children’s pediatricians accept the same insurance plans — including Medicaid, Medicare and most commercial plans.
For same-day care, you can turn to any provider in your pediatrician’s office for same-day online booking or visit a Norton Healthcare urgent care location: Norton Prompt Care for patients ages 12 months and up, a Norton Immediate Care Center location for any age, or a virtual visit with Norton eCare for patients ages 2 years and up.
Yes. Your child’s health records — including test results and visit history — are securely stored in Norton MyChart and are accessible to any Norton Children’s Medical Group provider. If your child is in the middle of treatment or a care plan, this will be available to your new provider within Norton Children’s Medical Group. If you decide to transfer care outside of Norton Children’s, you can share or download records through Norton MyChart as well.
Start with honesty, reassurance and a positive tone. You might say something like:
“Dr. [Name] has a new job in a different place, so we’ll be seeing a new doctor for your checkups. They’ll be really nice and will take great care of you, too. And don’t worry — I’ll be with you the whole time.”
Keep it simple and age-appropriate. For younger kids, focusing on routine (“We’ll still go for your checkups like always.”) helps provide a sense of stability. For older kids, you can involve them more by letting them help look at pictures of the new provider or come up with questions to ask at their first visit.
Most important, reassure them that they are still safe, supported and cared for — and that you’ll be there every step of the way.
We’re honored to care for your child and appreciate your trust in us.If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call your pediatrician office directly.
