Norton Children’s Hospital’s leading-edge pediatric care includes being a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Norton Children’s Hospital is the only facility in Louisville to have this top-level certification for helping injured kids.
To be a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center designated by the American College of Surgeons, a facility must show it can provide total care for every aspect of a traumatic injury — from prevention through rehabilitation.

Norton Children’s Hospital emergency department also is home to the “Just for Kids” Transport Team. The team uses specially equipped mobile intensive care units, an airplane and a helicopter to provide transportation for young patients in need of sophisticated, sometimes life-sustaining emergency care.
The emergency heliport is located on the hospital’s roof.
The Panda Cares Center of Hope provides a private, comforting space for families whose children are receiving care. The center not only offers respite but is a place where the whole family can receive emotional, mental and spiritual support. Norton Children’s pastoral care team and child life specialists provide counseling, therapeutic play and other support for parents, siblings and affected family members of a child in the hospital.
