Eight-year-old Skylin Williams from New Albany, Indiana, is celebrating a second chance at life thanks to a lifesaving heart transplant. After a difficult journey filled with uncertainty, Skylin has a story that serves as a testament to resilience, hope and the power of modern medicine.

Skylin’s health crisis began in April 2024 when her mother, Kaylyn Williams, took her to Norton Children’s Hospital, believing her daughter was experiencing a respiratory illness. The diagnosis, however, turned their lives upside down: Skylin was in end-stage heart failure.

Skylin and her family would spend the next 236 days in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant. Most of her time was spent in the Jennifer Lawrence Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, which is funded in part by the Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation. Located on the fourth floor of the hospital, the center offers families dedicated space to feel comfortable in, and patients receive the services, therapies and advanced treatments they need.

Skylin is not alone. She and so many other children deserve a chance to heal, grow and thrive. By becoming a Hero for Kids, you provide lifesaving treatments, groundbreaking therapies and compassionate care to children facing serious illness.
