Bourbon & Bowties Honoree Videos

The 2021 Bourbon & Bowties event will honor cystic fibrosis patient Hazel Leggett.

In 2021, Bourbon & Bowties will honor Hazel Leggett, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis before she was born. During the first year of Hazel’s life, she had more than 50 doctor visits at Norton Children’s Medical Associates and Norton Children’s Hospital. She has been hospitalized multiple times for lung exacerbations, and lung and viral infections. She has had surgery to removed mucus from her lungs that makes breathing difficult. Every day, Hazel, now 14 months old, endures hours of vest treatments that violently shake the thick, sticky mucus off her lungs as she inhales multiple nebulized medications. She takes dozens of pills to help her avoid lung infections and maintain her health for as long as she can. The reality for Hazel, and for other children in the area coping with cystic fibrosis, is that she will have many visits to Norton Children’s Hospital in her future. Each day, Hazel lives life over cystic fibrosis and is an undeniably resilient, smart, fearless and sassy toddler. Hazel and her family are grateful for the care team and resources of Norton Children’s Hospital.

The inaugural Bourbon & Bowties event was established in memory of Charles W. Gant, a loving and energetic 8-year-old boy who passed away from viral encephalitis on June 3, 2009. Since then, Bourbon & Bowties has honored Laurel Dortch, Maxwell Johnson, Owen McMasters, Anna-Maria Beck, Clara and Wilson McGarvey, Tanner Demling, Mason Christensen and Mya White. The event also will continue to honor and remember former head chef and host Dean Corbett.

An exclusive Vineyard Vines bow tie and tie and an exclusive Bourbon and Boweties bangle have been designed in honor of Hazel.

Tickets will go on sale May 6, 2021, at 9 a.m. To add your name to the invitation list, email the Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation at foundations@nortonhealthcare.org or call (502) 629-8060.
