Bourbon & Bowties Honoree Videos

In 2021, Bourbon & Bowties will honor Hazel, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis before she was born. During the first year of Hazel’s life, she had more than 50 doctor visits with Norton Children’s Medical Associates and Norton Children’s Hospital. She has been hospitalized multiple times for lung exacerbations, and lung and viral infections. She has had surgery to remove mucus from her lungs that makes breathing difficult.

Hazel endures hours of vest treatments that violently shake the thick, sticky mucus off her lungs as she inhales multiple nebulized medications. She takes dozens of pills to help her avoid lung infections and maintain her health for as long as she can.

The reality for Hazel, and for other children in the area coping with cystic fibrosis, is that she will have many visits to Norton Children’s Hospital. Each day, Hazel lives life over cystic fibrosis and is an undeniably resilient, smart, fearless and sassy toddler. Hazel and her family are grateful for the care team and resources of Norton Children’s Hospital.

The inaugural Bourbon & Bowties event was established in memory of Charles W. Gant, a loving and energetic 8-year-old boy who passed away from viral encephalitis on June 3, 2009. Since then, Bourbon & Bowties has honored Laurel Dortch, Maxwell W. Johnson, Owen McMasters, Anna-Maria Beck, Clara and Wilson McGarvey, Tanner Demling, Mason Christensen and Mya White. The event also will continue to honor and remember former head chef and host Dean Corbett.

An exclusive Vineyard Vines bow tie and tie and an exclusive Bourbon and Boweties bangle have been designed in honor of Hazel.

The Walnut Grove Style “Charles” bow tie was created to honor Charles’ life.

This bow tie, handcrafted in Kentucky of oak and paired with blue and white seersucker fabric, reminds us to live life the way Charles did — with love, energy and a passion for nature. Over 10% of the net proceeds from the “Charles” bow tie will be donated to Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation, which supports the mission and vision of Norton Children’s Hospital.

Visit WalnutGroveStyle.com to see the “Charles” bow tie and the complete collection. Walnut Grove Style is honored to play a small role in honoring Charles’ life and the incredible caregivers at Norton Children’s Hospital.
