2024 honoree

Annalise Aguirre

Annalise was born to Joanna and Oscar Aguirre at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, in 2018. As she was getting ready to be discharged, her nurse, Victoria, noticed that her heartbeat sounded irregular. Christopher L. Johnsrude, M.D., of Norton Children’s Heart Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, was called. After monitoring her heart, Dr. Johnsrude diagnosed Annalise with long QT syndrome. The next day, she was transferred to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where she received a pacemaker. On July 5, 2021, Annalise had a sudden cardiac arrest at home. Her dad successfully resuscitated her after performing CPR and using a defibrillator they had in their home. She is now thriving and turned 5 in November. Annalise and her family live in Radcliff, Kentucky. The Norton Children’s Heart Institute team conferenced with the fire chief in their county to ensure they are ready if Annalise ever has another emergency. Annalise and her family are grateful for Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Children’s Heart Institute.

In 2024, Bourbon & Bowties will honor 5-year-old Annalise Aguirre, who receives care for her heart at Norton Children’s Heart Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine.
