Our team will work to provide accurate information or coordinate interviews with subject-matter experts when available.

Our first priority is the safety, privacy and dignity of our patients, their families and our team members. We strive to balance transparency with these responsibilities at all of our facilities.

Please do not come to our hospitals, medical offices or events unannounced. Reporters, photographers and film crews always must be accompanied by a member of the public relations team while on any Norton Healthcare or Norton Children’s campus.

Interviews and Subject-Matter Expert Access

When contacted by the media, the public relations team will make reasonable efforts to connect reporters with appropriate clinical or organizational experts. If a specific individual is unavailable, an alternative source may be offered when appropriate.

Media interviews with patients or patient families are coordinated exclusively by the public relations team and require advance approval and written authorization.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) provides federal protection for personal health information and establishes strict standards governing its release.

Before any patient may be interviewed, photographed or video recorded on a Norton Healthcare or Norton Children’s campus, written consent must be obtained from the patient or the patient’s legal guardian. A member of the public relations team will coordinate all consent processes.

No media interviews with Norton Healthcare or Norton Children’s representatives regarding a patient will take place without prior authorization. Only information specifically permitted in the authorization will be shared.

We reserve the right to withhold information when necessary to protect patient privacy, safety or legal obligations.

We will not release patient information or condition reports in the following circumstances, regardless of age:

Death of a Patient

The death of a patient will be reported to appropriate authorities as required by law.
