Norton Children’s MIS-C Multidisciplinary Clinic

Norton Children’s MIS-C Multidisciplinary Clinic offers follow-up care for pediatric patients who have been hospitalized with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The clinic is staffed by a team of pediatric specialists who monitor children for short-term and long-term effects of MIS-C. Norton Children’s is the first pediatric health system in the region to develop a clinic dedicated specifically for MIS-C care.

The medical community, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is still learning about MIS-C and how it affects children. Since the syndrome is still a new condition, little is known about its short-, mid- and long-term effects.

Norton Children’s created the clinic to take a proactive step to monitor children for any late effects (a condition that appears after the acute phase of a condition has run its course) of MIS-C, a condition with Kawasaki disease-like features that can cause heart issues such as arrhythmias.

Our team aims to create a holistic, personalized treatment plan to meet your child’s unique needs. Our multidisciplinary approach to care allows your child to be evaluated by several pediatric specialists all in the same visit. These specialists share clinic space, working to provide comprehensive, thoughtful evaluation and treatment to help your child.

Specialties Available Through the Clinic

Children receive care from pediatric specialists from various specialties, including:

  • Cardiology
  • Infectious diseases
  • Rheumatology
  • Surgery

Depending on your child’s specific needs, they may see other pediatric subspecialists as part of their MIS-C multidisciplinary clinic visit, such as neurology, nephrology and gastroenterology.
