Refractory Epilepsy Clinic
When seizures are not controlled by two or more medications, it is considered refractory epilepsy or intractable epilepsy. Our fellowship-trained epileptologists are the leaders in Louisville and Southern Indiana in treating pediatric intractable epilepsy.
Our multidisciplinary approach means we can arrange appointments with the specialists on your child’s team to minimize the number of trips you need to make to the office.
Intractable epilepsy treatment
Our providers are at the leading edge using current anti-epileptic medication and are skilled at monitoring for side effects. We work to give your child as little medication as possible while optimizing quality of life.
Our multidisciplinary team includes a dietitian who can guide you and your child on meal plans that help control epilepsy. These include the ketogenic diet, modified Adkins diet and low glycemic index diet.
Children who are treated with epilepsy diets are monitored in our ketogenic diet clinic and have regular checkups to monitor growth, bone health, electrolytes and other parameters.
