Christensen Family Sports & Activity Program

Children and teens with Type 1 diabetes often can experience drastic changes in blood sugar levels during activity and exercise. That can affect a child’s safety and performance, especially when playing sports. The Christensen Family Sports & Activity Program at the Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute provides clinical care to individuals and their families through patient-centered and community education as well as clinical research. Regardless of sport or activity, our care is focused on improving the health, safety and athletic performance of every child and young adult with diabetes.

Type 1 Club for Kids and Teens With Type 1 Diabetes and Their Families

The Type 1 Club at the Wendy Novak Diabetes Institute was created by a family impacted by Type 1 diabetes. It is designed to provide the support, education and community families need when they learn their child has Type 1 diabetes. The goal is to provide families in Kentucky and Southern Indiana with support and resources as they adjust to a new “normal.” The club also seeks to promote awareness of Type 1 diabetes and offers opportunities for education.
