Haven Ludwig is a busy girl. At 13, she is spending her summer at Girl Scout camp, playing league basketball and vacationing with her family — all things she loves to do.
But what may be different about Haven is that she is doing all of these activities to be healthier. About a year ago, Haven was concerned that perhaps she wasn’t eating as well as she should, and she had a talk with her mom, Christie. Together, they decided to become more educated on what a well-balanced, nutritional meal plan should look like.
The two enrolled in “Healthy Living Workshops: Growing a Happy, Healthy Family” through Norton Children’s Prevention & Wellness. The six-week program is specifically designed to support families beginning and continuing their journey toward healthy living.
“What I learned from the program has helped me focus on how to be healthier and happier,” Haven said. “I am making smart choices when it comes to the foods I eat and the drinks I choose. And I’ve learned the value of staying active.”
Perhaps even more exciting is that Haven and her mom, as well as Haven’s younger sister are all doing this together.
A family-friendly way to support Norton Children’s. Splash, run and walk your way through the course.
“Having Mom join me in the classes was great,” Haven said. “She is a busy mom, I know that. So for her to be right there by my side tells me it is important and she wants me to be healthier.”
For all of her efforts in making her life healthier, Haven has been chosen as the 2017 honorary chair for the Norton Children’s Hospital Splash ‘n’ Dash 5k Walk/Run. She and her mother are training to participate in the event on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Big Four Lawn at Waterfront Park.
“I’m excited to be part of Splash ‘n’ Dash,” Haven said. “It combines exercise with water obstacles!”
